Visiting IKT Master’s Students

What can plastics achieve in terms of sustainability? The International Society for Plastics Engineering / SPE Central Europe aims to engage in dialogue with plastics engineering students using highly innovative plastic vehicle components that have been recognized at the AutomotiveAward.

On July 2, we visited the Institute of Plastics Technology (IKT) in Stuttgart with a selection of highly innovative components from the AutomotiveAward of the past three years. The event offered IKT Master’s students the opportunity to engage intensively with the award-winning components and learn about their unique features.

At several stations, representatives from AutomotiveAward sponsors—Dr. Erik Licht from LyondellBasell, André Woit from EMS-Chemie, and Thilo Stier from Akro-Plastic—as well as Heinrich Lingnau from our society and Prof. Christian Bonten from IKT, explained the special characteristics of the components. The 20 students had many questions, particularly regarding the recycling and reuse of materials.

As many students emphasized during the feedback session, this afternoon provided practical examples of what had been covered in their lectures. Furthermore, they were able to take away new information, including insights into sustainable material combinations and process modifications. It was a thoroughly successful event with many great conversations that continued over a shared pizza dinner in the early evening!
