The Society of Plastics Engineers – Central Europe (SPE) recently relocated its board meeting to Polkowice in Lower Silesia. Concurrently, participants learned about the establishment of German automotive suppliers in this region.

During his opening speech at Polkowice City Hall (formerly Heerwegen), Mayor Emilian Stanczyszyn addressed the rapid development of the municipality over the past decade. Stanczyszyn stated, “The establishment of diesel engine producer Volkswagen Motor Polska and car seat manufacturer Sitech was primarily made possible by the favorable conditions of the 108-hectare special development zone.” Both companies employ approximately 1,600 workers. The third major investor in the group is the Canadian company Royal Europa, specializing in the extrusion of plastic building components, with its headquarters in Toronto.

Currently, a business park for industrial establishments is being developed to stimulate the economy. Additionally, training centers and a university for managers, technicians, and qualified skilled workers are planned.

Sitech Sp.zo.o, founded in 1998 as a joint venture between Volkswagen and Karosseriewerke Dresden GmbH, specializes in the production of car seats. Dr. Peter Brose from VW Group Headquarters in Wolfsburg cited the good infrastructure, in addition to a lower wage level compared to Germany, as one of the reasons for the establishment in Polkowice. According to Dr. Brose, the high level of training among the workforce was also a decisive factor for the investment.
